What is daily review and self reflection?
  • Regular examination of your day and your achievements is a key step to self discovery and growth.
  • Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will propel you towards goal achievement.
  • This step will help you make the necessary adjustments to the steps towards goal achievement.
  • Confucius said that if you are struggling with achieving a goal, you should not adjust the goal, but adjust the action steps.
Steps to a successful daily review and self reflection

Ask yourself the following three questions

What went well?
What did not go well?
What changes should be made going forward?

Daily

At the end of your day ask the three questions as they relate to your daily goals.

Every Interval (weekly or every three weeks)

At the end of a weekly or three week interval ask the three questions as they relate to the goal achievement.

Quarterly

At the end of each quarter (three months) ask the three questions as they relate to achieving your dreams.

Pythagoras

“Never allow sleep to close your eyelids, after going to bed, until you have examined by reason all of your actions of the day.” Pythagoras verses 40-41

The following questions are related to retrospection

  • What went well?
  • What did not go well?
  • What should I change going forward?

If during this examination you find that something did not go well, then change it going forward. Also, remember to celebrate the things that did go well and give yourself credit for that.

“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps” Confucius

When reviewing your work and reflecting on what went well and did not go so well, make sure to make the necessary adjustments.

Benjamin Franklin shared his daily routine with us in his autobiography. Part of his routine was to reflect on the day and see what accomplishments were made.

In the beginning of day he asked: What good shall I do today?
At the end of the day he asked: What good have I done today?
